Sports Premium

The‌ ‌primary‌ ‌PE‌ ‌and‌ ‌sport‌ ‌premium‌ ‌was‌ ‌introduced‌ ‌in‌ ‌March‌ ‌2013‌ ‌to‌ ‌improve‌ ‌the‌ ‌provision‌ of‌ ‌physical‌ ‌education‌ ‌and‌ ‌school‌ ‌sport‌ ‌in‌ ‌primary‌ ‌schools‌ ‌across‌ ‌England.‌ ‌The‌ ‌funding‌ ‌is‌ ‌provided‌ ‌jointly‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌Departments‌ ‌for‌ ‌Education,‌ ‌Health,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Culture,‌ ‌Media‌ ‌and‌ ‌Sport‌.‌ ‌

The‌ ‌funding‌ ‌is‌ ‌allocated‌ ‌directly‌ ‌to‌ ‌primary‌ ‌schools‌ ‌and‌ ‌it‌ ‌must‌ ‌be‌ ‌spent‌ ‌by‌ ‌schools‌ ‌on‌ ‌‘making‌ ‌additional‌ ‌and‌ ‌sustainable‌ ‌improvements‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌provision‌ ‌of‌ ‌PE‌ ‌and‌ ‌sport’‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌benefit‌ ‌of‌ ‌all‌ ‌pupils‌ ‌to‌ ‌encourage‌ ‌the‌ ‌development‌ ‌of‌ ‌healthy,‌ ‌active‌ ‌lifestyles.‌

Following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Government has provided funding for schools to secure a significant and lasting legacy for the children. The aim is to develop an enjoyment of sports and physical activity and to promote a healthy lifestyle in children from an early age. The money is ring-fenced and must be spent on sport and PE (Physical Education). It is up to each individual school to decide how this money is to be spent.
